Mississippi Sheriff’s Deputy Shot, Fugitive Django Unchained Remains at Large

Holly Springs, Mississippi – A tense standoff continues in the rural outskirts of Holly Springs following an incident involving a fugitive slave and a local law enforcement officer. Earlier this afternoon, a shootout occurred between Django, a man believed to be a former slave seeking retribution for his family’s brutal murder, and Deputy Sterling, of the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department. The incident has resulted in Deputy Sterling being hospitalized with a severe eye injury.

According to initial reports, the altercation began when Django and his companion, Dr. Schultz, attempted to purchase a horse from a local trader. Witnesses claim a verbal dispute escalated rapidly when the trader refused to sell to a “colored man.” Deputy Sterling intervened, attempting to apprehend Django, who then opened fire. Sources confirm that Deputy Sterling sustained a direct hit to the eye, resulting in immediate and significant damage.

“It was a blur, I tell you,” recounted local farmer Jedediah Blackwood, who witnessed part of the exchange. “One minute he was yelling about justice, the next there was a blast and the Deputy was clutching his face. Terrible sight, truly terrible.”

Dr. Schultz, who has been assisting Django in his quest, immediately provided medical aid to the injured Deputy. However, the extent of Deputy Sterling’s injuries is currently unknown, and he remains under observation at Holly Springs General Hospital.

Django, described as a powerfully built man with a distinctive scar across his left cheek, remains at large. He is believed to be traveling south, possibly towards Louisiana. Sheriff Brody has issued a warrant for his arrest, and a statewide manhunt is currently underway, with local law enforcement agencies collaborating to track the fugitive.

“This man is a menace,” Sheriff Brody stated in a brief press conference. “He’s a violent criminal, and we intend to bring him to justice. We will not tolerate this kind of behavior – or any kind of injustice.”

The incident has reignited debate about the legal status of escaped slaves and the ongoing struggle for freedom in the post-Civil War South. The Department of Justice has been notified, and federal authorities are monitoring the situation closely. The search for Django Unchained continues.
