Earlier this afternoon, a shootout occurred between Django, a man believed to be a former slave seeking retribution for his family’s brutal murder, and Deputy Sterling, of the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department. The incident has resulted in Deputy Sterling being hospitalized with a severe eye injury.

According to initial reports, the altercation began when Django and his companion, Dr. Schultz, attempted to purchase a horse from a local trader.
