Oakland, CA – Chaos erupted in the normally quiet neighborhood surrounding the Quick Stop convenience store on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard late last night, as a violent confrontation between Bishop “The Grip” Johnson and Q “The Shadow” Williams resulted in a sustained gunfight. Police responded to multiple calls reporting gunfire and arrived to find the scene heavily secured and a significant amount of damage to the store and surrounding businesses.
Preliminary reports indicate that the altercation began shortly after 10:00 PM, stemming from an undisclosed dispute. Witnesses describe a rapid escalation of tension between the two men, culminating in a prolonged exchange of gunfire inside the Quick Stop. While the exact nature of the initial disagreement remains unclear, sources within the Oakland Street Crew suggest it involved a disagreement over territory and recent drug distribution.
“It was just… fast,” recounted Marlene Jones, a cashier at the adjacent laundromat. “One minute, Bishop was arguing about prices, the next, *boom*, shots were flying. I dove under the counter. I’ve never seen anything like it. Everyone was screaming.”
Initial reports confirm that one individual, later identified as Darius “D” Williams, a known associate of Q, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and is currently receiving treatment at Highland Hospital. Bishop Johnson was last seen fleeing the scene in a black Cadillac DeVille, and a city-wide manhunt is currently underway.
“He always wanted to be the biggest,” a street informant, who requested anonymity, stated. “Bishop, he always thought he was untouchable. This… this just proves you can’t outrun the shadows. And the shadows always get you.”
Police have recovered several shell casings and a handgun at the scene, though the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident or the whereabouts of Bishop Johnson to come forward. The incident has prompted renewed calls for stricter gun control measures within Oakland and a heightened police presence in the affected area. The Quick Stop is currently closed and will remain so until further notice.
